Interesting survey. I remember how several years ago (sometime 2001-03) there was this big national outrage going on b/c an Atheist wanted to take the words "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance. Or did he want to cease producing coins with the phrase "In God We Trust"? Something like that.
I tried becoming Christian. There were 2 periods in my life when I thought about nothing else. But deep down, I felt like I was trying to convert only to please others. And in both times, I pretty much got rejected for not being Christian. Looking back, I realized that I wasn't really being true to myself when trying to "join the club".
Now, I'm Agnostic. And I'm totally content with that, regardless of what others think. Personally, I always feel that there's some Big Guy Upstairs who wants the best for us, some higher spiritual being that can't really be explained. It's not any specific God, but at the same time, I'm not excluding any truths of other religions. I know I know -- there's the argument, "Only one religion can be true." I can see why some would say that, but I can't agree/disagree with them. Cuz whatever viewpoint I take on that debate, I can't really back it up with any proof. I don't have the answers to everything, and I especially don't pretend to be Mr. Know-It-All when it comes to discussing the Almighty, Heaven, Hell, etc.
Maybe one day I will convert to Christianity, or some other religion. I don't know. But until I do, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. If it happens, it happens. Regardless, I usually like to keep an open mind about things.
But apparently that's not good enough for some people.

Most people are spiritual, even the ones who claim to be agnostic.

Yeah, I have no problem with spiritual. I hear people have described themselves, "I'm not religious, but spiritual."
yeah, that's silly. don't become a christian because you feel pressured by others. Yes you should always have an openness to seeing any kind of truth, but in the end do what you think is right. any christian who rejects you for not becoming christian lacks a lot of foresight and has some serious growing to do..
if you're ever curious about anything I'm up for sharing! And you can always be honest with me, since it's important and something I have always valued. I definitely had my days post-college when I seriously contemplated abandoning my faith. but things have changed now and this christian thing is now the most important part of my life. It's been and continues to be a most amazing and fulfilling journey that I didn't even think was possible back in high school. And with something that wonderful, how could I not want to share that experience with everyone I know and care for?
anyway the important thing is that you are open as well as doing what you feel is right. seek truth diligently and you WILL find it. if christianity makes you feel uncomfortable, it's no one's right to come and shove it down your throat. and trust me, even I don't like being around the kinds of christians you mentioned above. =P

You're my favorite kind of Christian, Jeanna...
And I'm glad to hear that your walk in faith is going really well.
